Let Me Tell you about Align

What is Christ-Centered Yoga?

Christ-Centered Yoga is a spiritual discipline that enables us to draw closer to Jesus as we experience the work of the Holy Spirit. The Sanskrit word “yoga” simply means “yoke”, or “to join together”. Christ-Centered Yoga connects Scripture, prayer, worship music, and the ancient poses of yoga. As we quiet our mind and release the stress and tension in our body, we are more able to hear the still, small voice of God.

Align's origin story

In 2016, a group of Christian Yoga instructors had dinner together at Panera. As we shared our struggles with traditional yoga philosophy and the powerful ways that the Holy Spirit was working through yoga in our lives, we recognized the need for Christian yoga classes in our area. ALIGN Christ-Centered Yoga emerged – Christ-Centered Yoga that opens our hearts and minds to the love of Jesus and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, rather than emptying our minds in the quest for self-enlightenment. “In Him (Christ) we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)

In addition to Biblical teaching and excellent instruction, ALIGN is also committed to supporting Christian ministry throughout this world – proceeds from classes are donated to local, state, national and international missional efforts and missionaries. We have supported farmers who donate their produce, local organizations that repair and renovate substandard housing, and missionaries who teach sustainable farming, run orphanages, and provide sustainable housing in the inner city.

Why Yoga?

In the quest for good physical and mental health, studies continue to point to the importance of holistic wellness – union of mind, body, and spirit. In addition to releasing the stress and tension of the day, yoga releases the long-held tension of physical and emotional trauma. As we practice yoga we learn to be fully aware of physical sensations and mental chatter. We become more able to address what is happening in the moment without judgement and condemnation, making the best choice for healing and growth. We learn how to focus, becoming more focused on God, and less on ourselves. With a consistent practice we can take what we experience on the mat and apply it to our day-to-day lives.
